Use your SEO knowledge on my home page: title, description, headings and
internal links. Name the three things that matter most and only change the
title and the description.
A request like that lands differently with an assistant that has the SEO skill switched on than with one that does not. In the first case it walks a fixed checklist; in the second it does what it thinks is right. That is the whole idea behind skills: knowledge packs you switch on or off per hosting account, so the assistant works to the rules of a craft instead of improvising.
Where to find them
In DirectAdmin open Invoker Link and look at the Overview under Skills. Every pack is listed there with a short description and a switch. Your choice applies to the whole hosting account and to both the assistant and the terminal.
Which packs exist
| Pack | What it adds | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Hosting platform | How this account works: folders, PHP versions, WordPress, backups, git, limits | always on |
| Invoker support | What goes through the hosting provider and how to reach us | always on |
| Network checks | Checking DNS, email, SSL, speed and availability | always on |
| Design & frontend | Better looking, modern and accessible pages, no template look | on |
| Findability (SEO) | Titles, copy, sitemap and speed for Google | on |
| Writing | Clear web copy: short, concrete, no fluff | off |
| React & Next.js | Only needed if your website is a React or Next.js project | off |
You cannot switch off the first three. That is deliberate: without knowledge of the platform the assistant does not know where your files live, which PHP version your site uses or how backups work here, so it would guess. The other four are yours to choose.
The Hosting platform pack is itself split into subjects: WordPress, PHP, backups, databases, email, git, maintenance, screenshots and the limits of your plan. You do not have to pick those separately; they come along as soon as they are relevant.
How you notice it in a chat
Two things change when you switch a pack on.
The first is the approach. Ask for a new page with Design & frontend on and you get a page with its own typography and colour choices instead of the default template every AI page looks like. With Findability on, after a copy change it also looks at the title and the description of that page.
The second is the skills menu in the assistant. It shows what is on and puts a starting request in the input box for you to complete. Handy when you are unsure how to phrase something: pick the skill and fill in the subject.
Skills or notes?
These get mixed up often, so briefly:
- Skills are professional knowledge. How to update WordPress safely, how to build a readable page, what belongs in a sitemap. They are the same for everyone.
- Notes are the facts about your website. Company name, brand, contact details, agreements, what you specifically do not want. They are per website.
The assistant needs both. Skills without notes gives tidy pages about the wrong company; notes without skills gives the right information on a messy page.
What to switch on per kind of website
- WordPress site you maintain yourself: the default is fine. Add Writing if you let the assistant produce copy too.
- Static one-pager or custom site: Design & frontend and Writing on, React & Next.js off unless the site is built on it.
- React or Next.js project: React & Next.js on. This pack is about the build patterns of those frameworks and is pointless on a site without them.
- Web shop: the default plus Writing for product copy. For speed and caching you already have Hosting platform.
Common mistakes
"I switched everything on, then it knows the most." More is not better. Every extra skill is extra text weighing in on every request, and knowledge that does not fit your website distracts. Switch on what you need this month.
"I changed the skills during a chat and nothing happened." The choice applies to new chats, not to the one already running. And while a session is running the change is held back until it finishes. Stop the session or wait it out, then start a new chat; see What if the assistant stalls or gets stuck.
"I switched off Hosting platform to make it faster." You cannot, and that is for the best. Without that pack the assistant would have to work out how your account is put together every single time.
"I expected the SEO skill to know my keywords." A skill brings a method, not data about your market. Put your keywords and your audience in the website notes and it will use them.
"I see different packs on my server." With your own Claude Server you manage the packs yourself and can fit more in than on web hosting; see Rolling out Claude Code plugins across all your servers and accounts.
