Still on Joomla? Switch to a site that's built once and keeps working.

Joomla 3 has been end-of-life since 2023. Joomla 4 and 5 require painful migrations of extensions and templates. The community is shrinking, support is getting harder, and new developers no longer pick it. We rebuild your Joomla site on a stack that will still be relevant 10 years from now, and your Google rankings stay put.

#// why you should leave Joomla
// eol

Joomla 3 is end-of-life, and upgrading hurts

[joomla]Joomla 3 reached EOL in August 2023. Many sites still run on it because upgrading to 4 or 5 is a full re-migration: templates need replacing, extensions often too, and the database migration is manual work. Agencies usually charge it as a new build.

[invoker]Instead of a Joomla 3 → 5 migration that costs as much as a new build: rebuild straight away on a stack without major-version pain. No future Joomla 6 that needs yet another migration.

// community

The community is shrinking, and support shows it

[joomla]Joomla peaked around 2012 at ~3% of the web. Now it's about 1.5% and falling. Stack Overflow activity halved over the last 5 years. New developers hardly ever choose Joomla, which makes maintenance harder (and more expensive).

[invoker]Next.js has the largest web framework community of 2026. React developers are everywhere. Your site needs no niche skill set to be maintained.

// extensions

Extensions are old, abandoned or incompatible

[joomla]A typical Joomla site uses 8-15 extensions: JCE editor, K2, Akeeba Backup, SP Page Builder, VirtueMart. Many of those haven't been updated in years, or their developer has stopped. With a core upgrade, a third of your extensions break.

[invoker]Zero extensions. Functionality lives in your own codebase, tested and version-controlled. No extension authors who vanish into thin air.

// speed

Slow load times from heavy PHP rendering

[joomla]Joomla sites average an LCP of 3-5s on mobile: PHP + MySQL queries on every page view, often poorly cached, frequently with a heavy front-end framework from 2015 templates.

[invoker]Statically rendered pages on a global edge network. LCP <1.5s, Lighthouse 95+, no database queries per page view. Measurably faster than any Joomla setup.

// security

Security patches arrive late, if at all

[joomla]Joomla core gets security updates, but the weak spot is the extensions. A vulnerability in an extension that's no longer maintained = your site is exposed. Hacked Joomla sites are more common than you think.

[invoker]No admin panel on the public side. No database for anyone to get into. Your site is static HTML: no code running on every request = no opportunity for exploits.

// seo

SEO loss in a Joomla migration is real

[joomla]Joomla's URL structure is often idiosyncratic (sef_urls plugin, aliases, VirtueMart IDs). In a sloppy migration you lose canonical tags, URLs change, 301 redirects are missing, and within 3 months your rankings are gone.

[invoker]We map every Joomla URL (including SEF variants, VirtueMart product IDs, category paths) 1:1 to the new site, set up 301 redirects at hosting level, keep meta titles and schema data, and submit the new sitemap to Google before the DNS switch.

#// how we migrate your site
01

Inventory + SEF URL mapping

// Week 1, days 1-2

We crawl your Joomla site, identify which extensions you really use, map all sef_urls and aliases, and take stock of your templates + custom overrides. You get a migration plan with scope and deadline.

02

Building the new site

// Week 1, days 3-5

A prototype on staging. Content is ported from Joomla via the API or straight from a database export. K2 articles / categories / tags are mapped 1:1. VirtueMart products (if you have them): a separate step, see extras.

03

Feedback + extension replacement

// Week 2, days 1-2

A feedback round. Meanwhile we replace Joomla-specific extensions: Akeeba Backup is no longer needed (backups run automatically), RSForm → native form, K2 → built-in content types, ACL → custom auth if needed.

04

301 redirects + Search Console

// Week 2, day 3

Every old Joomla URL (including SEF and non-SEF variants) gets a 301 at hosting level. The new sitemap is submitted to Google Search Console before the DNS switch.

05

DNS switch: live

// Week 2, day 4

Your Joomla site stays up for 30 days as a fallback. DNS switch in minutes, SSL automatic. Downtime: none.

06

Monitoring + support

// Post-launch

2 weeks of intensive Search Console monitoring. Content changes included in the €29/mo subscription. Larger additions are quoted separately.

// how we keep your google rankings

Joomla migrations carry a higher SEO risk because of URL variants (sef_urls plugin, aliases, parameter URLs). We catalogue every URL version Google has indexed via a Search Console export, map them 1:1 to canonical URLs on the new site and configure 301 redirects at hosting level (server-side, permanent). Metadata is kept. The new sitemap is submitted to Google before the DNS switch. 2 weeks of post-launch Search Console monitoring. In practice: equal or rising rankings thanks to the speed boost and the clean URL structure.

#// frequently asked questions
01I'm still on Joomla 3. Do I need to upgrade to 4 or 5 before you can migrate?+
No. In fact, that's often a waste: a Joomla 3 → 5 upgrade is already a re-migration in itself. We work directly from your current Joomla 3 (or 4) installation and move everything to the new stack. That saves you the intermediate step.
02Can I take my Joomla content (articles, categories, tags) with me?+
Yes. We export through Joomla's API or a direct database dump, whichever is more efficient. Articles, categories, tags, menu structure and media are mapped to the new structure. K2 content needs an extra conversion step, which is included.
03What about VirtueMart, K2, Akeeba Backup and other extensions?+
We convert K2 content types to native content in the new site; visitors won't notice the difference. Akeeba Backup is no longer needed, backups run automatically. Form extensions (RSForm, Chronoforms) → native form with Mailgun for email notifications. VirtueMart with more than ~50 products: separate quote, usually towards a Mollie/Stripe checkout or headless e-commerce.
04What happens to my Google rankings and SEF URLs?+
We map Joomla's sef_urls + aliases + non-SEF variants of the same page to one canonical URL on the new site, with 301 redirects for every variant. We carry over meta titles and descriptions (or improve them). The new sitemap is submitted to Google Search Console before the DNS switch. Most clients see equal or rising rankings thanks to the speed boost.
05How long does a Joomla migration take?+
Usually 2 weeks from briefing to launch. More complex sites (500+ articles, K2 structure, a VirtueMart shop, multilingual via Falang) we plan at 3-4 weeks. You get the exact schedule after the inventory in week 1.
06What exactly does a Joomla migration cost?+
€450 one-off excl. VAT for the build and migration. With a subscription that becomes €225 (12 months) or €0 (24 months). The subscription is €29/mo for hosting, backups, security and maintenance, and its price never changes. For large sites or complex VirtueMart shops: a separate quote before we start, never afterwards.
07We use a paid template (Gavern, Helix, T4). What then?+
Those templates are bought per site and every Joomla version needs a new one. We rebuild your design: custom, 100% in line with your brand, no more yearly template licence. You get better performance and better SEO control in return.
