Squarespace is beautiful until you grow. Switch to a site that grows with you.

Squarespace is perfect for a portfolio or a simple business site. As soon as you want more (custom work, integrations, better performance, your own code) you hit a ceiling. We rebuild your Squarespace site on an open stack: faster, more control, no template limits.

#// why you should leave Squarespace
// templates

Template lock-in limits your brand

[squarespace]Squarespace offers ~150 templates, and once you've chosen you're stuck with it: switching means rebuilding your entire site. Changes outside the template are limited to Custom CSS injection that can break with the next template update.

[invoker]Your design is custom. No templates. It fits your brand, your logo and your photos 100%. Changes are permanent and version-controlled; nothing breaks on a 'template update'.

// hosting

Mandatory Squarespace hosting: expensive and inflexible

[squarespace]Squarespace Business: €21/mo. Commerce Basic: €30/mo. Commerce Advanced: €53/mo. You can't choose where your hosting lives. Better performance? Extra cost. More features? Higher plan. No sideloading of apps.

[invoker]€29/mo all-in for hosting on a global edge network, faster than any Squarespace server. No plan upgrades for more features. No page view limits.

// seo-ceiling

SEO control is boxed in

[squarespace]Squarespace offers basic SEO fields: meta title, description, some schema. But: no control over canonical tags for complex scenarios, no hreflang setup, limited structured data and no native 301 redirect management (it's manual per URL).

[invoker]Full control over <head>, a JSON-LD @graph with Organization + WebSite + Service + FAQPage, an hreflang matrix for multilingual sites, canonical per page, automatic 301s at hosting level. A technical SEO foundation that's 2026-proof.

// integrations

Integrations beyond Squarespace Extensions are hard

[squarespace]Squarespace Extensions is the only 'store', and it's limited (~50 integrations, mostly marketing tools). Want to connect to Exact, Moneybird, a custom CRM or a specific API? You're stuck with what Squarespace allows, or you use Code Injection, which breaks on updates.

[invoker]The code is open, any API can be connected. Exact, Moneybird, HubSpot, Airtable, Supabase: whatever you want. The integration keeps working because it's part of your own codebase, not an injection into a SaaS platform.

// scalability

Costs per extra site add up fast

[squarespace]Every extra Squarespace site = a separate subscription. Two brands? €42-60/mo. Three? €63-90/mo. And you have to maintain each site separately because Squarespace has no multi-site workspace on small business plans.

[invoker]An extra site? €29/mo per site, or less for several. We can host them in the same codebase with per-site branding if the content allows. Scalability is our habit, not a premium feature.

// seo-retention

Losing SEO when migrating is a real fear

[squarespace]Squarespace has limited redirect options and you can't edit the .htaccess. If an agency handles this sloppily, your rankings crash within weeks.

[invoker]We export all Squarespace URLs, map them 1:1 to the new site and set up 301 redirects at hosting level (permanent, server-side). Metadata is kept or improved. Post-launch Search Console monitoring for 2 weeks. Ranking drop risk: minimal.

#// how we migrate your site
01

Content + design inventory

// Week 1, day 1

We export your Squarespace content through their API where possible, and crawl what the API can't reach (custom CSS, some blocks). We take stock of your design: what you want to keep and what can be sharper. You get a concrete migration plan.

02

Building the new site

// Week 1, days 2-5

Custom design (no template), built on Next.js + Tailwind. Your staging URL is ready on day 3. Days 4-5: a feedback round and polishing.

03

Replacing extensions and integrations

// Week 2, day 1

Squarespace Scheduling → Cal.com or custom. Acuity → kept as is (separate from Squarespace). Commerce → Mollie/Stripe checkout. Member Areas → custom auth (Supabase/Clerk).

04

301 redirects + Search Console

// Week 2, day 2

All Squarespace URLs get a 301 at hosting level. New sitemap submitted to Google. We monitor crawl errors before the DNS switch.

05

DNS switch: live

// Week 2, day 3

Your Squarespace site stays up for 30 days as a fallback. DNS switch in minutes. SSL automatic. Downtime: none.

06

Monitoring + optimisation

// Post-launch

2 weeks of Search Console monitoring. Performance optimisation where needed. Small content changes included in the €29/mo subscription.

// how we keep your google rankings

Squarespace migrations are less risky than Wix (better URL structure) but need a careful 301 redirect setup: Squarespace URLs often contain hashes or slug variants that must be mapped specifically. We export all URLs, record a 1:1 mapping and configure 301s at hosting level (server-side, permanent). Metadata is kept. The new sitemap is submitted to Google before the DNS switch. Post-launch Search Console monitoring for 2 weeks. Ranking drop risk: minimal; the speed boost often produces a rise instead.

Hairbuddies, a hair-system studio in Groningen, had a OnePage.io site. We built a new one-pager on Next.js with a dark, warm design, the same branding and logo, and consult bookings through Salonized.

@Hairbuddies
// result
A new design at the same address, with all original imagery and the logo recovered from the old site. Bookings through Salonized, fully managed by Invoker.

#// frequently asked questions
01Can I export all my Squarespace content (pages, blog, gallery)?+
Squarespace offers a basic XML export for blog posts and pages. For media, gallery images, member data and some block types we have to scrape or use their API. In practice we get everything across; it's simply more work for larger sites. This is included in the base price, unless your site is extremely large (500+ pages or complex Member Areas): then we quote separately.
02What about my Squarespace Scheduling / Acuity integration?+
If you have Acuity separately (not Squarespace Scheduling), it simply keeps working; we embed it in the new site. If you use Squarespace Scheduling (part of your plan), we replace it with Cal.com (free up to ~100 appointments/month) or a custom calendar integration, depending on what you use now.
03What happens to my Squarespace Commerce shop?+
Up to about 50 products, we replace Squarespace Commerce with a light Mollie or Stripe checkout directly in your site. The product catalogue is imported. Transaction fees: only Mollie/Stripe (lower than Squarespace). Large shops (500+ products, complex variant management): separate quote, often towards headless Shopify or Medusa.
04Will I keep my Google rankings?+
Yes. We map Squarespace URLs 1:1 to the new structure with 301 redirects at hosting level. Meta titles and descriptions stay the same (unless you want to improve them). The new sitemap is submitted to Google Search Console before the DNS switch. After launch we monitor rankings for 2 weeks. Usually: equal or better rankings thanks to the speed boost.
05How long does a Squarespace migration take?+
Usually 2 weeks from briefing to launch. Content export + custom design + replacing integrations is the bulk of it. For large sites or complex Commerce/Member Areas: 3-4 weeks, quoted in advance.
06What if I want to keep a Squarespace-like feel?+
No problem. Squarespace's strength is typography, whitespace and photo-driven design. We can recreate that (and do it better): with the Geist font, generous whitespace, full-screen hero photos, etc. The difference: your version is custom, faster and not bound by Squarespace's template rules.
07What does it cost in the longer term?+
Squarespace Business (€21/mo) + extensions at €10/mo = ±€372/year. Over 3 years: €1,116. Invoker with a 24-month subscription: migration free, 36 × €29 = €1,044 over 3 years. So it's cheaper, and you get a custom design, a faster site, full SEO control, and you own your code instead of renting a template.
